A lighting study using a kid's room scene. The camera is set at the same location for all renders and the scene is setup for different lighting conditions. This scene started as a co-modeling project with Tony Matias and ended up being a test bed for lighting with the Photon Mapping technique. A lot of material tweaks had to be made so the scene renders realistically under all tested lighting onditions. One lighting condition that is missing is sun light shining through the windows.
A composition study using a Thanksgiving dinner scene. The scene was originally modeled by Cindy Grove. It was completely remodeled and retextured to better match realistic lighting and textures. This was done with Animation:Master v13 and illuminated with the Photon Mapping GI technique. A lot of models and details that don't show in the final render had to be added because the Photon Mapping bounces light off the surrounding objects. For instance, paintings were added on all the walls because the red wall color was too prominent otherwise.
An interpretation of Catwoman done in Animation
Master V7 and 8 for June 2000 3DCC Martin Hash Animation:Master Contest. One of the images
won the first prize. This was the first almost realistic human model that I did in Animation:Master. Prior to that model, all the characters I designed had comics proportions. I think I had to start about 4 models before getting it mostly right. The ace was the toughest part to get right but it turned out good.
An animation showing the conforming of a swelled map into a terrestrial globe. This was done in Animation
Master V7 in January 2000 for the Stewart Museum. The images
are from a 640x480, 30fps, 30sec animation that was projected on
the entry door to an exposition about terrestrial globes from the
16 century to today. The map used is an 18th century original that
was already engraved in a swelling fashion for conforming to a globe.
The starry sky behind the globe uses a special mapping technique
that is explained in my sky
tutorial.
An unfinished representation of "Battle
Angel Alita" done for the Animation Master October 99 contest. The series is also known by the name of "Gunnm". A manga created by Yukito Kishiro about Alita, a cyborg rehabilitated by
Dr Ido. Alita has incredible battle abilities which allow her to
defeat every adversary she encounters. "Battle Angel Alita" is the Manga I enjoyed the most from those I read. I'm not finish with this character even though I haven't worked on it for a long while. I still plan to improve the model and do some other renders of her.
A serie of images from the most ambitious project I did with Animation Master while working in the multimedia business. Everything was done with V3 and V4. It is a whole adventure game for a CD-ROM project. The 3D for this project was done by a team of two : me and Nicolas Drolet. Most of those images have been reused in a public product called "L'univers fantastique de l'Or dur" soon to be translated in English. Produced by Micro-Intel and Cotardi. I tried to select images that would show all the main characters.
I series of images for a Internet based virtual formation center project. Done in Animation Master V4 in 1996 at Micro-Intel. Unfortunately, a lot of images are missing (will I ever rerender them?). The images also include concept studies
done for the same training project. The concept was rejected and abandoned because it was judged way too futuristic. The fact that we saw the earth in space was a total turn-off for the customer.
A set of images done for various purposes for various multimedia products. Most of those multimedia products were training for employees and professional technicians. Some of those were User Interface elements, some were interactive elements, some were animated and some were simply static illustrations.
A few 3D logos done for various organizations or clients over the years. The oldest logo dates from 1988 and was done with a 3D applications I programmed in Pascal. At some point in 3D CG history, 3D logos were big business especially for TV and video. But they generally turned out poorly suited for printed logos so the commissions for them faded quickly.
A serie of samples of 3D illustrations for a bank employees training multimedia CD-ROM product produced by Micro-Intel in 1994. Pictures that where rendered in POV-RAY and modeled in MORAY. The models are very crude but did the job. They were the first 3D modeled illustrations Micro-Intel used in a multimedia product.
A set of images I could not find a proper category for. Most of those images are very old, dating back to 1993.
