The Spherical Smear

Click here to download it (for A:M v8.5, Windows).
Copy the trb into your A:M turbulence folder.

Spherical Smear will smear the underlying noise function. It can smear from pole to pole of cylindrically. The smearing is produced through sampling the texture space along the smear arc.

Turbulence Type

Select from the regular set of Fractal noise functions

Octaves

Select Octave from 1 to 5 (see The Octave).

Angle / Arc

Select whether the length is specified in degree or in cm.

Specifying length in angle will produce shorter smear as the texture gets near the axis and longer smear as the texture gets away from the axis.

Specifying the length in cm will produce smears of the same arc length.

When in Cylindrical smear mode, the plugin will stop smearing when the specified length would smear longer than 360° thus leaving unsmeared sections near the axis.

Length

Specified the length of the smear. The meaning of this value depends on wether the it is entered as angle or as length of arc. In angle, it specified the number of degree. In Arc, it specified the length in cm.

Samples

As the mear length increase, it may be necessary to increase the number of samples to reduce the sampling aliasing artifacts which shows as repeating textures in the smears.

Note that the processing time increase proportionally with the number of samples.

Gain

As the number of samples increase, the values coming from the function tend to average toward 50%. It may be necessary to increase the gain in order to regain better contrast.

Pole to pole / Cylindrical

Pole to pole will smear from pole to pole on a sphere.

Cylindrical will smear around the axis.

Axis

This is the axis vector along which the smearing is aligned.
